Let Machine Learning Create Your In-feed Ads
Now we've brought the power of machine learning to In-feed ads, saving you time. If you're not quite sure what fonts, colors, and styles will work best for your site, you can let Google's machine learning help you decide.
How it works:
- Create a new Native In-Feed ad and select "Let Google suggest a style."
- Enter the URL of a page with a feed you'd like to monetize. AdSense will scan your page to find the best placement.
- Select which feed element you'd like your In-feed ad to match.
- Your ad is automatically created – simply place the piece of code into your feed, and you're done!
By the way, this method is optional, so if you prefer, you can create your ads manually.

Copying Your Accel Settings Between DPIs
If you are interested in increasing your mouse's DPI to create a smoother acceleration curve, this calculator can help you get a similar feel to the curve you are currently using. Note that it won't be exactly the same as before due to the driver having more inputs to work with, but overall I find higher DPIs feel much better and more consistent.
Note that if you have the "Scale Accel with Post-Scale X" or "Scale SensCap with Post-Scale X" options checked, then the values for those variable will be adjusted when you change Post-Scale X. Make sure that your sensitivity cap number is the same as the old number before you save changes (Sensitivity cap is a multiplier of how much your sensitivity can be raised relative to post-scale, so if it was 2 to double your sensitivity, make sure it's still 2 after you change the other values).
And if you use any Power that isn't 2, I have no idea if this is right or not - sorry.
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge (MS-DOS)
Developer: | LucasArts | | | Release Date: | 1991 | | | Systems: | DOS, Mac, Amiga, FM Towns |
This week on Super Adventures I'm playing LucasArts' legendary point-and-click adventure game Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge! Or LeChuck's Revenge: Monkey Island according to that logo up there. Either way around it's still going to screw up your meticulously organised alphabetically ordered game library.
Monkey Island 2 is a game that needs no introduction and to be honest it doesn't need any commentary or reviews either. The game's so famous and has been so thoroughly examined that anything I write about it here will be entirely redundant; I might as well just show off some screenshots and call it a day. But I just managed to find a few thousand words to type about bloody Star Wars the other day for my sci-fi site so now I feel like I can take on anything Lucasfilm can throw at me! Though the game development group had firmly switched over to the name 'LucasArts' by this point, making this the first in the series to have the iconic Golden Guy logo (there's no skit though).
I dug out my old Monkey Island Madness compilation CD for this and I'll be playing the game using ScummVM, because it's awesome. The disc also has a version of Monkey Island 1 on it that's been updated with CD quality music, but Monkey 2 only has the original MIDI soundtrack. Which is good, because it'd only screw up the dynamic iMUSE effect. Who'd even want to explore a pirate town without the music seamlessly shifting to give each area its own theme?
Alright, this is an adventure game, so by writing about the first hour or so of gameplay I'm going to inevitably end up giving SPOILERS for the early puzzles. I won't be ruining that ending for anyone who hasn't beaten it yet though... unless you've read my Curse of Monkey Island post, then I already have. Sorry.

Sekiro Tournament: Get Involved
If you've been following the GGLeague tournaments, you know that our first big Sekiro tournament is just a few weeks away on April 6. It's going to be huge! Many viewers have reached out about how to get involved, either on logistics for the tournament or entering as a tournament runner.
Here's an overview of how you can get involved:
Due to the size and complexity of this tournament, we need about a dozen members on our logistics team. This is a simple but VERY important job to ensure the success of the tournaments. We need the following the logistics or "Tech Team" members:
Scoring Specialists---we need you to carefully watch a group of 2-4 runners to look for any hits taken or rule infractions. You then need to communicate and coordinate with other scoring specialists to relay this information to the tournament casters/commentators via discord DMs.
Here's an overview of how you can get involved:
Logistics Team
Due to the size and complexity of this tournament, we need about a dozen members on our logistics team. This is a simple but VERY important job to ensure the success of the tournaments. We need the following the logistics or "Tech Team" members:
Scoring Specialists---we need you to carefully watch a group of 2-4 runners to look for any hits taken or rule infractions. You then need to communicate and coordinate with other scoring specialists to relay this information to the tournament casters/commentators via discord DMs.
This is a very important job and requires knowledge of the Sekiro no damage run. You don't need to be a runner, but you need to have a good understanding of the run's rules and flow of the game. We need a minimum of 10 scoring specialists for each tournament, including on April 6.
Communication Specialists---we need logistics specialists to communicate messages to tournament runners and commentators, moderate chat, and provide other support.
No specific game knowledge is required, although it's helpful. This is best for people with good communication skills!
Artists/Video Editors/Programmers/etc.
In addition to tournament logistics, we always need artists/video editors/programmers/etc. for specific projects. If you want to be involved with any of this, please reach out to me (contact info below).
Tournament Runners
We expect to have a large number of runners from Team Hitless, however there is plenty of space for new blood. In fact, we're hoping to see a TON of new faces in these tournaments. Here are the requirements if you want to be a tournament runner:
- Reliable and consistent performance on the Sekiro no damage run. Your goal prior to the first tournament should be at least a 10 hit PB on the run and a competitive time as well since matches will be scored based on in-game completion time, with a penalty for damage taken.
- Must be a Twitch streamer with a reliable internet connection and good quality stream. Stream quality must be at least 720p/30 fps and 2,000+ bitrate. You cannot participate if you cannot stream during the tournament.
- You must agree to our code of conduct for the tournaments (more information to come), which includes your permission for us to restream your tournament run and you must be respectful (at all times) to other runners, commentators, and casters. You also must agree to using ethical behavior when it comes to self-reporting on match performance.
- There may be a small (~$10) entry fee to compete. Members of Team Hitless are exempt from this requirement. The purpose of the fee is not to generate revenue but to ensure that those entering are serious about running and will be reliable when it comes to tournament day.
- Tournament runners who cancel last minute, or habitually sign up and cancel, will not be allowed in future events. Tournament schedules are always posted in advance and schedule changes are rare. Clear your calendar ahead of time and make sure you have time to run and practice before asking to join.

If you have more questions, or want to participate on either the logistics team or as a tournament runner, please DM me on Discord (preferred) or Twitter (@McRaptorTV). You can join the McRaptor discord by going to Twitch.tv/McRapt0r and typing !discord in chat.

Has L&D Been Hijacked By ‘Identity’ Politics?
I got asked an interesting question last week on a panel at an Learning and Development conference. Where is L and D? Is it advancing or regressing? Interesting question.
In many ways it has advanced by embracing technology. Few individuals or organisations of any scale ignore online solutions to deliver learning and development. There has also been some movement towards taking research more seriously. I meet far fewer people who believe in learning styles or NLP. There seems to be much more awareness of learning theory and by that I mean cognitive science.
On the other hand, these advances have been matched by a serious reversal - the swallowing, lock, stock and both barrels of 'identity' politics. Gone are the days when HR and L and D were at the forefront of personal development. Much 'training' is now targeted at protecting the organisation from their own employees. Employees are now subjected to a tsunami of compliance and identity training . Much of what is actually delivered via an LMS is actually protective training, or as almost everyone says, 'tick-box' training. We know it and learners know it. We have to be honest about the fact that they are often openly contemptuous about this form of 'training'. Somewhere along the line our development agenda got hijacked.
Identity and training
Training that establishes difference also implies exclusion. Fixing favoured identity groups, seeing some as oppressed and others oppressors is a destructive force. And when HR aggressively promotes and 'us' and 'them' culture it does us all a disservice. When we become the managers and administrators of difference, serving up a never-ending diet of identity and diversity training courses, we swirl around in our own echo-chambers. We become the seekers out of 'wrong-think', policing ordinary people, as if they were stained by original sins. It results, not in rational consensus within an organisation, but the false exaggeration of difference.
Leadership
One specific identity group that has been put on a pedestal is 'Leaders'. We have thrown resources at Leaders and Leadership training, as elitist an approach to employee engagement as I've seen in my 35 years in this business. In a desperate attempt to appear legitimate we have turned 'elitism' into a sort of training cult. No one would seriously call themselves a 'Leader' without being ridiculed. This form of single group identity is a serious distortion of real needs in organisations.
Values
Another facet of identity politics has been the unedifying sight of organisations forcing faux values down the throats of their employees. I have values and have no interest in HR telling me what my values should be. Strangely alliterative – all starting with 'I' or "C' they are abstract nouns that bear no relation to the real world or the workplace. Worse still are those values that fit some acronym, where at least some of the values have been made up to fit that word. They want to shape your identity by imposing their values on you. They are, of course, largely ignored or treated with contempt. Few can recall them, fewer still care.
Diversity
The rot set in long ago, when HR thought it should take the role of therapeutic diagnosis. Myers Briggs, a flawed and crude tool, has been used to determine people's lives. As if this weren't enough, a slew of interrogative techniques, from learning styles (a fiction) to NLP and mindfulness, were employed to caricature, categorise and, in some cases, condemn ordinary people. There has been no end to this slicing and dicing, based on dubious diagnostic techniques. The evidence is clear. Diversity training does not work.
Unconscious bias
It has now reached surreal levels of interrogative nonsense, with courses on 'unconscious bias'. Not satisfied with superficial courses making us consciously compliant, HR suddenly started to probe our unconscious. How did that happen? What on earth gives anyone in HR or L&D the right to even think that my unconscious is open to their investigation, something to be probed by some half-baked questionnaire that has no scientific validity? This is completely out of control. The assumption is that certain out-of-favour groups - white, male, working class - are guilty by virtue of being born, so leaden with bias that they need to be re-educated. It's a pathological view of human nature, where minds must be interrogated and forced to admit their guilt. This was never our goal. HR and L&D is full of good people but it has been hijacked by a form of policing that has abandoned personal development for personal identity.
Conclusion
All of this is fuelled by so called 'experts' who design courses on 'X', train others to deliver those courses as 'practitioners' who sell their courses for '$Y' so the Ponzi schemes begin. Rather than focus on the real needs of organisations, real knowledge, skills and competences, we have been sucked into a world of exaggerations, abstract concepts and fictions, where people have to be identified, shamed and re-educated, to be 'correct' and 'compliant'. Time and time again I hear pleas for HR and L&D to be more business focussed. What we've done, in reality, is turn our back on real business issues, to focus on therapeutic concerns, that invade people's privacy. So let's get off the identity bandwagon and get back to business.

The Benefits Of Capturing Your Everyday Experiences
Source |
What would you rather do right now, write down the last conversation you had or watch a funny video guaranteed to make you laugh? What about a month from now – do you think you'd rather read about a random conversation you had last month or watch another funny video? These are some of the questions researchers asked in a recent set of studies exploring our tendency to underestimate how much pleasure we get out of rediscovering mundane experiences. Participants in these studies consistently expected that they would not be very interested in rereading a log of an ordinary event in their everyday lives. But a couple of months down the road when the time came to reread that log, they found themselves much more interested and experienced more pleasure than they had expected. This was partly because they had forgotten a lot more of the event than they had expected they would! In the moment, we think why record our everyday experiences, we will remember them in the future and they aren't that memorable anyway.
